NEW MEDITATION CLASSES

Our new group meditation class at the Takemusu Aikido Online Dojo, focusing on sitting meditation, known as Shikantaza (‘just sitting’). We seek to cultivate a present-centered, calm, and open-focused state of awareness. This mindset involves engaging with ‘what is’ and relinquishing resistance and reactivity.

A new Meditation Class schedule will begin in September 2024

(20 minute sitting session)

See below for full details and how to join in:

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Each lesson is structured around a theme: beginning with a full body loosening and warm-up routine, before moving onto solo weapons and bodywork training. Always moving from the simple to the complex; from the basics to the increasingly challenging advanced levels.

All classes are online, live, and interactive – taken as part of a group via Zoom Meetings. The Online Dojo is a community of members from many different countries, all training in the spirit of sharing and learning together. Class times are scheduled at a specific time and consist of daily morning classes and a weekly evening class (time-zone dependant). Each lesson is also recorded LIVE for you to review after the class in your own time – or in case you miss a class, you can follow along at a more convenient time. Sign up today, and you will receive all the necessary information to access the live classes and recorded content.

ZOOM MEETING INFO:

We use the same meeting number for all the classes – so this will not change. Zoom will save the number for you so you shouldn’t need to re-enter it for every class, just select the Takemusu Aikido Online Dojo.

Meeting ID: 538 564 6359

If you haven’t used Zoom before, the best thing is to download to your PC or Laptop. Ensure you have the latest version installed.

REQUIREMENTS:

The classes focus on solo exercises for Bokken (wooden sword), Jo (wooden staff), and Tai-jutsu (empty hand bodywork). If you have Bokken and Jo from previous or current martial arts study, then please use these. Many of our students have started with simple wooden poles, which can be purchased very cheaply from any DIY or Hardware store. If in doubt, get in touch for further advice and info.

Ideally, you will have a minimum of 2×2 m for the exercises – a high ceiling is recommended, but exercises can always be adapted to suit the space.

A yoga mat or similar soft matted surface is recommended although not necessary, some parts of the classes will work on the floor, however alternatives are always possible.

ONLINE CONTENT:

The training is recorded LIVE and available for you to review in your own time. This can be accessed through YouTube. You can find over 500 videos uploaded on our Channel, including over 300 hour-long classes, Workshops, and week-long Intensives!
